Baltimore Homicide
Baltimore homicide data: The Baltimore Sun tracks all homicides in
Baltimore City starting in 2007. For each homicide, there is the
lat/long of the location, the date, and name of the person. The data
are at http://essentials.baltimoresun.com/micro_sun/homicides/. Some
issues to look at might be predicting the total number for 2009,
estimating the spatial density of where the homicides occur, and how
that changes from year to year, maybe calculate the probability that a
homicide will occur in a given region. More advanced work could
involve fitting spatial-temporal point process models. Time series
analysis could be done to look at temporal patterns (day-of-week
effect, seasonality). Getting the data could involve using XML/Curl
tools.
