Biosketch

I am a Professor in the Department of Statistics at UC Berkeley. I am also a Principal Investigator in the Delphi group. From 2011-2022, I was a faculty member in Statistics and Machine Learning at Carnegie Mellon University. I did my Ph.D. in Statistics at Stanford University (2011), with Jonathan Taylor as my thesis advisor. I did my B.S. in Mathematics at Stanford (2007).

Research interests

My research interests lie broadly in statistics, machine learning, and optimization; and I like to think about problems from different angles: applied, computational, theoretical. More specifically, my interests include high-dimensional statistics, nonparametric estimation, distribution-free inference, convex optimization, and numerical methods. I also have a significant applied focus on computational epidemiology, specifically tracking and forecasting epidemics.

Professional service

I am currently Editor-in-Chief for Foundations and Trends in Machine Learning, Editor-in-Chief for Foundations and Trends in Statistics, and an elected member of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics Council.

Other current and past service roles can be found on my CV.
