Tips for creating figures from R for inserting in Latex

This section is still under construction, but provides some vague tips (the problem is that I'm not sure what scenarios these tips apply to...)

• I've had problems with pdf files created in R that contain many points (dots) with very slow loading of the file. One thing that seems to solve this is to create the figure in R and output to ps. Then use epstopdf to deal with the bounding box and convert to pdf. Then insert in Latex and use pdflatex.
• In some circumstances, it can help to create a large ps output file in R and then shrink the file when inserting the figure in Latex or Lyx.
• epstopdf seems to deal with the problem that sometimes pdf files created directly in R have too much whitespace. The width and height arguments to pdf() may also help in this regard.
