TILE - Goals and Objectives of the TILE Project
Overview of the TILE Project
The explosion of Internet activities and the new GUI and WEB-oriented
programming languages such as Java
offer exciting opportunities for developing
new instructional material. Hypertext, images, interactive interfaces
and components, and sound change the way we
interact with machines. Also, current standards change a user's
expectations of software in all realms of life, including education.
A more serious consideration of how to teach in this new environment is
currently being undertaken in the TILE project.
By capitalizing on the pedagogical advantages of new multimedia
technology, the project has the potential to greatly enhance students'
understanding of key statistical concepts and
to assist students in relating these concepts to important
applications in their field.
-
Improve students' understanding of basic statistical concepts
through the use of new instructional materials.
- Improve students' quantitative literacy.
- Provide students a flexible learning environment that accommodates
varying levels of expertise.
- Provide students individualized feedback and
an common interface that is both helpful and intuitive.
- Provide support to faculty and graduate students
to develop and expand the lab materials.
