Current Research

I am currently working on the analysis of the exon array data produced by the TCGA project. For my research I spend 50% of my time in the Lab of Dr. Paul Spellman at the Life Sciences Division of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and 50% in the lab of Prof. Sandrine Dudoit at the Division of Biostatistics at UC Berkeley.

Software

I developed and maintain the biomaRt package which is available through the Bioconductor project. The biomaRt package provides an interface from R to a growing collection of databases implementing the BioMart software suite. The package enables retrieval of large amounts of data in a uniform way without the need to know the underlying database schemas or write complex SQL queries. Examples of BioMart databases are Ensembl, Uniprot and Wormbase. These major databases give biomaRt users direct access to a diverse set of data and enable a wide range of powerful online queries from R.
