OFFICE HOURS: Tuesday: 11-1, 325 Evans
TEXT: Statistics , 4th ed., by Freedman, Pisani,
and Purves.
GSIs: Office hours can be found here. You can go to the office hours of any GSI, not just your own.
EXAMS: There will be one
in-class midterm, and one final exam (room to be announced).
If you cannot take the final, you cannot pass the class. The dates of the exams are:
- Midterm: Thursday October 7, in class.
- Final Exam: December 14, 8-11 am, room TBA
There will be no early or makeup exams.
HOMEWORK will be posted here each Thursday, and will be due the
following Wednesday. Your lowest 3 homework grades will be dropped.
GRADING: Your letter grade will be
determined using the greater of:
{20% HW, 30% Midterm, 50% Final} and
{20% HW, 80% Final}.
No individual letter grades will be given for midterm, or
final. You will get a letter grade for the course that is based on
your overall score.
SCHEDULE: The course schedule is available here. It will be very beneficial to you if
you read the indicated chapters before lecture.
Of course you should read them after lecture, and don't read the text like a
novel. Work through as many exercises as you can, and at least the
recommended ones. You can find the homework that is due, and the
recommended problems here.
CALCULATOR: You will need one that adds, subtracts, multiplies, divides, takes square roots, raises numbers to a power, and preferably also computes factorials. Statistical calculators are unnecessary.
