Subject: Online publication in probability

Dear Jim,
The Bernoulli Society is very enthusiastic about
your plans for an online survey journal and encyclopedia
in probability. Our Executive and our Publications Committee
have both discussed, and endorsed, your initiatives. We
congratulate you on the leadership and energy you have
displayed in these very important endeavours.

We would expect our Council to reflect the opinions
of our Executive, were we to put your proposals before them.
We do not feel that that is necessary at this point, but when
the time comes for the Bernoulli Society to make a more
substantive contribution, involving (for example) the
provision of funding, we would send the proposals to Council,
we believe with positive results.

More generally, we anticipate that our future
association with scientific publication will involve online
publication to a very significant extent. Therefore your
initiative fits well with our strategy for the future. We
would of course be delighted to work jointly with cognate
societies to achieve important goals, such as those which you
have enunciated, in the publication of research in probability
and statistics.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch with us if we
can be of further assistance.

	Sincerely

	Peter Hall (President, Bernoulli Society)
