Printing

• to check printer status:
  • >lpstat -oprintername (for HPs)
  • >lpq -Pprintername (for Linux)
• lpr -Pprintername % prints from Linux command line
• lp -dprintername % alternative print command from netscape
• >cancel smear-4053 % kills print job 4053 on smear
  It may be necessary to log in to the machine that drives the printer.
• printing a plain text file: >enscript -Pprinter_name -2 -r filename takes plain text, converts to ps, puts two per page and then prints
• When printing JSTOR docs, save as ps files first
