Title: Sequencing the transcriptome Speaker: Serban Nacu, Genentech With several "next generation" technologies already on the market, the cost of DNA sequencing is dropping rapidly, and the goal of the $1000 genome appears within reach during the next few years. This opens up exciting possibilities in biology and medicine. The new technologies generate massive amounts of data: one sequencing run can produce more than one billion base pairs. The structure of these large data sets is not well understood. We discuss some of the relevant statistical and computational issues, focusing on the use of sequencing to analyze gene expression.
