PREREQUISITES: Mastery of the material in Appendices 1-4 of the text, fluency with calculus (derivatives and integrals) in two variables, and – these are crucial – clear logical reasoning and strong problem-solving skills.

HOMEWORK: Assignments are on the Recommended Problems page and are due on Wednesdays at the start of section. No
late homeworks will be accepted. Your two lowest homework scores will be dropped in the calculation of your
overall homework score.
QUIZZES: There will be four quizzes during the term, in section, on dates listed in the schedule. Quizzes will not be given at any other time. You must take your quiz in the section in which you are enrolled. Your lowest quiz score will be
dropped in the computation of your overall quiz score.
EXAMS: There will be one
midterm and one final exam. The final exam is required. If you
cannot take the final at the date
and
time given below, you cannot take this class. If you have DSP accommodations, please contact me. There will be no
late,
early,
or
repeat
exams.
Midterm: Thursday March 2,
in class.
Final: Wednesday May 10, 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Exam Group 10. Room to be
announced.
All quizzes and exams will be closed book and closed notes. No calculators or other such devices will be needed or allowed.
GRADES: Your overall
score will be the maximum of {10%
homework, 30% quiz, 20% midterm, 40% final} and {10% homework, 30% quiz, 60% final}.
