Finding Motifs:
An introduction
It is an important and also challenging task to identifying short biological motifs like transcription factor binding sites and splice sites where the gene expression machinery interacts with the nucleic acid. The variability in those motifs makes it difficult to precisely identify all the potential sites, but the well-characterized properties among those signals make it possible and promising to statistically model the signals.

We are interested in identifying those motifs and more specifically, probabilistic modeling the dependency within one motif and among different motifs for incorporation into larger probability models, such as promoter and gene finders. We hope that statistical modeling could help study the molecular mechanism involved in the recognition of those special signal sequences.
