Summer Internships and Other Opportunities
Finding Opportunities
Announcements of summer internships and programs are circulated regularly via the department e-mail. Sometimes, you may also see a poster posted on a wall or door in the statistics department. Some faculty like placing posters outside their door, so it helps to go for a walk around the department every now and then. More active methods include contacting people at institutions that you may find interesting. The department's alumni directory is an excellent resource for this.
Internships
Public Institutions
I spent two summers at
Los Alamos National Laboratory, participating in their
Graduate Research Assitant program. I got connected with the program by a professor in the department, who was familiar with my research interests. He knew a scientist at the laboratory with similar interests and put the two of us in touch.
