The department is allotted funds to pay for readers who grade homework, labs, and other assignments. Readerships are assigned at the beginning of the semester to those who apply for the job. Many positions go to undergraduates and students in other departments, but a qualified statistics graduate student who needs the money (and who is otherwise working less than 50% time) would get preference. The current wage is $11.20 per hour. The university covers the cost of the Student Health Insurance Program (SHIP) and a partial fee remission for students with Readerships with a minimum 25% appointment for the entire semester.
