The Department T-shirt Contest
Every year, the SGSA invites the students, faculty, and staff to contribute designs for the department's logo contest. The winning logo is then used on the department's T-shirt for that year. Past designs have ranged from funny to math-y, and great ones live on for generations: at any given time, someone in the department is probably wearing a classic Berkeley Stats T-shirt.
If you have an idea for a department T-shirt, the T-shirt committee would like to know! The logo contest typically opens up at the beginning of the Spring semester and submissions are accepted for about the first two months of that semester. Once the deadline is past, the designs go online and voting begins. Voting is open to students, faculty, and staff within the department.
The winning design earns a place on the department's T-shirt for the next year, and the designer receives a free T-shirt. More importantly, the designer also receives bragging rights, which are not to be underestimated.
Spring 2009 T-shirt contest
It's time to vote! T-shirt designs for 2009 have been submitted and it's up to you to determine the winning design. To vote, send an email to
tshirt@stat.berkeley.edu. In the subject line of the email, write "2009 T-shirt Contest Vote" and the number of the design you like. The designs can be found at

The polls close at 5 pm on Friday April 10th, so send your vote now!
Ordering T-shirts
We are still taking orders for T-shirts from past years. Prices are determined by the design itself (more complicated designs require iron-on printing while simpler designs can be printed more robustly but at a higher price) and by sizing. Usually, T-shirts cost
- $16 for the current T-shirt;
- $14 or $16 for old T-shirt designs (when available); and
- $2 extra for extra-large sized shirts.
Payment can be made in person to any member of the T-shirt committee.
Old T-shirt designs may not be available due to order size constraints -- if there is not enough demand for old T-shirts, we can't order them. Also, if you are looking for a T-shirt from a previous year, contact the committee in person or via e-mail as we may have one in stock.
Currently we are exploring options to make old designs available via online apparel shops such as CafePress.
