Dr. Srinivas N. Iyer (Ph.D. 1986) was Visiting Research Associate at the prestigious Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research, where he taught a course on Applied Stochastic Process.

Sadly, Dr. Piotr Witold Mikulski (Ph.D.1961) passed away in July 1997. A memorial service was held at the University of Maryland in October 1997.

Dr. Thomas J. Morrison (M.A. 1968) wrote: "While I was a student in the MA program, Dr. Lehmann was one of my professors. He both taught me about non-parametric statistics and was my sponsor for the Peace Corps. While the Vietnam War made it impossible for me to serve in the Peace Corps, I did remain faithful to the 1960s commitment to human service. These days, I am a licensed social worker in the state of Nevada, and recently authored a monograph entitled "Statistical significance and practical significance: Administrative practice and the measurement of effectiveness in social work interventions." Its theoretical base was the Neyman-Pearson Fundamental Lemma, and I found myself returning to several articles and books by Dr. Lehmann which bear on this lemma. The truth is that the monograph never would have been completed without the education I received in the Berkeley Statistics Department. For that I am most grateful."

Dr. Jeffrey Polovina (Ph.D. 1974) wrote: "Many years ago I was a TA for Professor Neyman. It was one of the best jobs I've ever had. My duties were to meet Professor Neyman at the Berkeley faculty club Wednesday evenings for dinner along with the guest speaker. After dinner we retired to the Statistics Department to hear the seminar often followed by coffee and cakes provided by Professor Scott. But of course what made the experience great were the stories and insights from Jerzy Neyman and the cast of who's who in the world of statistics."
