Abstract:
A large amount of the cDNA microarray data analysis to date has been exploratory, with cluster analysis playing a central role. However, when made explicit, the purpose of an investigation can inform the design, analysis and follow-up in important ways. After making some general comments on this issue, I will illustrate these ideas with a two case studies involving the mouse olfactory system.
