INTERDISCIPLINARY STOCHASTIC PROCESSES COLLOQUIUM Thursday 12 September 4.10 - 5.00 SODA 380 Speaker: Fabio Martinelli Title: Glauber dynamics for the Ising model: results and open problems Abstract: I will introduce Glauber dynamics for the Ising model, the simplest and most famous Gibbsian random field, and go through old and recent results on the speed of relaxation towards the equilibrium measure. Emphasis will be on the connection between the long time behavior of the dynamics and properties of the underlying Gibbs measure (presence/absence of a phase transition, large deviations). A few open problems will also be addressed. Dinner: contact David Aldous if interested in joining us for dinner.
